Update
Firstly, I should offer my apologies that I won't, after all, be attending the New York Comic Con.
Stormwatch #2 is in your comic shops today, digitally from 7pm UK time. You can find a preview here.
I'm proud to say that the Superman: The Black Ring #2 hardcover, which finishes my Lex Luthor Action Comics run made number three in the New York Times graphic novel chart.
There are three interviews with me new to the net now, an (excellent and very psychologically intimate) long audio chat with Tony C. Smith which forms the latest Sofanauts podcast, a quick chat when I was at FP Glasgow and a follow up with additional questions at Comixology.
I'll be at Bristolcon, hopefully, on the weekend of the 21st, and will be appearing on several programme items.
Excellent SF site Strange Horizons is having a fund drive. Donors get and can win many cool things, and I've donated a prize (the two signed Lex Luthor hardbacks) myself.
And finally, Joel Meadows, editor of Tripwire magazine, is seeking crowdfunding for his London: A Year in the Life photo book.

And that's it. See you soon.

Hi Paul: I'm sure Wayne will be a little dissapointed that you'll not be at New York given that he is there as press for scifipulse.
As an aside have read both you issue ones of Demon Knights and Stormwatch and enjoyed both. Think I'm leaning a little more to Stormwatch though. I liked the brisk and pacey start to the latter.
I should have issue 2 of Stormwatch by end of week.
Paul: Sorry for the second message. Just heard something in your sofanauts interview, which struck a chord with me and felt I may as well give it voice.
When you talked about writing about the bully and having him eaten by sharks. Well I did something similar.
I was studying performance arts for BTEC national and as part of that we were encouraged to keep a diary.
Anyway one day one of the ladies on the course was being a tad pushy. She was one of those that seemed to want to try and psycho analise literally everything you know, and I was in a bit of a mood on this particular day and doing my best to remain civil with everyone. Anyway, I can't remember exactly what it was about. It was something kind of stupid that she was getting nit picky about, but to cut a long story short. I wrote this whole court scene in my Diary putting her on trail for crimes against whatever lol.
Following day when she was nit picky. I just smiled and waved it off because had kind of amused myself in my diary at her expense for the day before.
Lets say that my prosecutor tore shreds off her lol.
I write fiction, but never really tried to get it out there. Though did write a play in college, which we performed in front of school children for theatre in education and got a Distinction for that whole project given that I wrote, starred in and directed. But truth is if I were not with folk supporting me. I doubt I'd have done as well.
Anyway, I continue to enjoy your comics and look forward to your book release next year.
Loved the new issue of Stormwatch, I’m digging that the team really isn’t a cohesive unit and that there’s friction over the leadership direction of the team. It seems some of the characters (Harry & Projectionist) don’t feel that their position on the team is secure.
It’s going to be a long wait until issue #3 comes out
So, I just read Stormwatch. I Liked it better than last issue. The art seemed much more expressive, which I think suited your dialogue better. (and it's amazing how much a good colourist can do) I liked the bit with Projectionist turning the world's superheroes on The Fox. poor guy, even if he is a villain. Doesn't hurt that Booster Gold was the one delivering the ass-whooping, I like Booster.
Question, do you know if this bit with the covers was intentional? whose idea was it? I think it's a fun nod. http://theauthority.ws/clarksbar/viewtopic.php?p=15147#p15147
I just read the second issue of Stormwatch. I loved it. It feels like so many different things are happening within the story. Everything is chaotic, but I think that is the message that you are trying to convey, right? The world is in danger, and the team is a mess.
Oh, and for some reason I am reading Harry Tanner with an Australian accent. Is there any chance he might be... Australian?
Super excited about your new Eminence of Blades character. Any chance we can see what he looks like in his "normal/hero" costume/attire? Or is what he's wearing in issue 1 and 2 his "normal/hero" attire.
Thank you, Ian. Chris: indeed, that's what we're interested in on this book, and thanks. Jill: thank you, I've no idea if that was intentional or not, but cover artists do tend to do things like that. Thanks, C: Harry is British and a bit upper class. Sorry. Anon: and we'll be seeing that shortly.
Loved Stormwatch 2. By any chance, do you fence? Because I'm starting to think that some of your comments about Harry being someone we'd like and Adam being someone we'd love to hate were misdirection (and the book reminds us that swordplay is all about misdirection). Not calling you the "Prince of Lies" or anything, though--actually, it's great to be spoiled but still surprised.
This book is a lot funnier than I expected--almost lie superhero parody.
Hi Paul
Just to let you know that the London Screenwriters' Festival 2011 kicks off on October 28th for a three day festival like no other - http://www.londonscreenwritersfestival.com. Tony Lee, who writes for Marvel Comics ('X-Men', 'Spider Man', 'Amazing Fantasy') and Rebellion Publishing ('2000AD', 'Judge Dredd: the Megazine') is amongst the speakers.
Best wishes,
Monica
Oh. one more thing. Is Apollo going to call Midnighter on the whole stalking thing? I was kinda waiting for him to go 'wait... WHAT?' to Midnighter revealing he'd been watching him for like a year. That ain't healthy. If I were in Apollo's place, I'd be pretty fed up with all these people treating me as a weapon of sorts to fight over rather than a person.
Stormwatch #2 was awesome. I love the carbon armor idea and the coming out as a "super-hero" remark. Adam One is definitely more interesting this issue especially with mysterious voice talking to him. I can't wait to see where this story is going to go and I already want to see a TV adaptation.
Also I meant to ask this when the first issue you came out, but do you feel that DC is doing a better job with keeping the various sci fi concepts/elements than they have in the past?
I've always felt that DC has a lot of cool sci fi things, but that they didn't always jive well together outside of the titles they were found in. Do you think they did a better job about creating a more consistent internal physics with this latest iteration of their universe?
Anon: thanks, there's a bit of that in there, yes, but wait and see. Monica: well, that ad is relevant to the blog, and you placed it with knowledge, so it stays in. Jill: well, Midnighter did at least approach Apollo with a handshake and an introduction, rather than whatever city-based move Jack began with. Adam: thanks, I don't know about the rest of the line (use of science varies hugely with what genre you're aiming for) but I'm trying to do what Warren did in terms of getting an SFnal feel going.
Hey Mr. Cornell,
As someone new to comics, I wanted to say that your Black Ring hardcover collections were a big part of me jumping on board the New 52 relaunch. I've gotten so into it that I even started a blog, New 52ers, as a place for folks new to comics to go for news related to DC.
Anyway, I love your work and am very excited to see where Stormwatch and Demon Knights take me. Thanks for playing a big role in getting me into the hobby!
Hey Paul,
Trundled over here when I saw you weren't taking Manhattan after all...had planned to ask if you'd mind sparing a few minutes to be Q&A'd on Demon Knights from a Kirby-centric perspective when there; in Issue 59's edition of my Jack Kirby Collector column I'd like to spotlight your book and Rob Wuest's Monsters Among Us for that mainstream-fringe/indie-classic balance... now I should ask when and how and if you'd like to participate. My deadline's not 'til Nov. 1ish so there's time...feel free not to post this and hit me off-blog at mcgovernix@gmail.com if interested.
Cheers,
Adam
Paul: Fantastic second issue of Stormwatch. Loved it. Really liking The Projectionist. It be so cool to have that kind of power.
Thanks, you two, that's really good news.
I must offer a modicum of apology for my comments after issue one; If you read the Martian Manhunter stories of the past decade or so, you'll find I have some reason to be over sensitive about him being used to prop up other characters by being sucker punched and otherwise made to play the fool. You do seem to have a take on him I rather like.
In general, I am enjoying the balance of absurdity and action, and while I feel some characterizations are suffering from the pace and crowded nature of the cast, I'm hopeful things will settle in and we'll get to watch these different personalities bounce off each other in nuanced and entertaining ways.
Great, I hope you'll stay with us.
Please please please don't let Harry Tanner be the main villian. From the solicits it seems like he is, and I'm crying on the inside right now. This was my dream character (swordsman dressed in black and red:)) and I was super excited to see him finally brought to life in a comic. Please say it isn't so...Is it too much to ask for one expert swordsman in a monthly comic? Seems like they're all either villians, ex-villians, women, or in obscurity.
I don't think 'main villain' quite describes where Harry's going. Wait and see!
