Batman and Robin

Now it can be told: I'll be writing three issues of Batman and Robin (#17-19), starting November 24th. It's a last minute substitution before the new regular team comes on, but I'm regarding it as a major gig, and giving it my all, with my attempt at a new Batman villain. There's an interview about it here, and here's Guillem March's cover to #17...

I'm particularly pleased that the artist on the arc will be Scott McDaniel, whose work I enjoyed on Green Arrow and lately on Detective Comics. From what I've seen so far, he's knocked it out of the park again, adding some vicious details to what's already a dark and mad story.

Hope you enjoy it. Phew, that's another secret project revealed! Until tomorrow (and Death), Cheerio!

Way to go, Paul - that's awesome news!

  • D.D. Heal Says:

First Action Comics, then came the Only Connect appearance and now you're writing Batman and Robin. That is great news so far, what's next for the Stephen Fry of comic books?

  • Mart Says:

I'm thrilled to bits with this news, Paul. I'm sure the story by yourself, Scott and co will be suitably skew whiff.

Good on DC for the smart handling of a delay. These things happen, and sometimes everybody wins.

Sorry that I didn't order #17 now. Hopefully will be able to pick it up off the shelves.

  • Ian Cullen Says:

Although am more of a fan of Batman when he's working alone. This is brilliant news.

Maybe when the new team of writers get fed up. You'll get shunted onto either Batman or Superman full time.

Though, I think they need to keep you on Action for now.

  • DanielW Says:

    Congratulations Paul!
Might have to pick up those as monthlies rather then wait for the trade.

  • Paul Cornell Says:

DD: there's at least two more exciting comics things soon. Flattered by the comparison! Mart: that's how I feel about it, though the internet is, of course, trying to find a negative. Odd: I have driven you back to the comic shop. Ian: the new team's there for the long haul I should think, but ta. Dan: got you into the comic shop too! Ta!

  • Alex Jamieson Says:

Very excited about of my favourite writers, my favourite DC character (Dick Grayson) and the artist that defined his acrobatic style (during his Nightwing run)!
Can't wait to read Dick/Damian interplay from your pen...I feel that's right up your street.

And because I haven't yet said...loving Action, it's great fun. Also picked up Soldier Zero and Knight and Squire on Monday and loved those too.

  • Paul Cornell Says:

Thanks very much, Alex, a satisfied customer!

  • Anne Says:

Awesome! The cover rocks and I'm sure the rest is even better.

  • Paul Cornell Says:

Thanks, hope you like it when you see it.

  • Claude Says:

Good to see they hired a writer for this book.
Any plans to make Damian less of a prick? No? That's a hard job for anyone.
Remember, though. That's what got Jason Todd "killed".
    Good luck, Paul.
Try not to hurt yourself with all the heavy lifting you've been doing lately! :)

  • Paul Cornell Says:

Absolutely not, that's what's great about him. I don't really understand much else you said, but I'm sure I should thank you. Cheers.

  • The Working Dead Says:

Just got my comics in the mail and saw your name on the Batman and Robin cover. I'm suddenly not so upset that Morrisson is leaving it. Too bad it's for only three issues, I'm loving Action Comics and Knight & Squire.

Thanks very much, hope you enjoy it!
