Lex and Death
Now it can be revealed! The special guest star in Action Comics #894, out in October, is none other than -

Death, created by Neil Gaiman! (On our lovely cover by David Finch.)

And here's an interview with me about it, at Newsarama. And another at Comic Book Resources.
Rest assured, Neil himself approved what we're doing, we'll be keeping him in the loop, and it'll be in the spirit of her previous appearances. More news, reactions, interviews and such will pop up here as I get them. In the meantime, Cheerio!

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!! OMG!
*bouncybouncybouncybouncy* OMG you're writing Death. I can't even press the E key hard enough to convey the level of squee that needs to be conveyed right now. :)
I think this is great news. Can't wait to see how she weaves into the story. And it's good to see her being used in the wider DC Universe, rather than JUST in Vertigo titles.
Really enjoyed your first issue, btw, Paul. Never got around to posting at the time, but it was a lot of fun. The weaponized Lois in particular. I look forward to the next issue.
Fantastic. I can think of just two writers who might do something really interesting with Death, and Neil's not writing Action Comics, is he?
Wow, that Neil Gaiman sure has an eye for a hottie doesn't he:)
Nice art.
Talking of which. I may as well jump up and down here and scream. Though its a man scream. Not Squeee. My pipes couldn't handle squeee anyhow.
My Essential X-Men, with the original stories and art is finally on its way. Woo Hoo, 'Come on kid. Lets read this thing, look at the pretty pictures, and go home!'
That was kind of Star Wars wasn't it.
@Teresa: How do you breath when you get this excited:)
Best use of a character from the Sandman universe. Is there chance we may get to see a homage from The Seventh Seal. You know, the scene in which the main character plays a game of chess with Death.
David Finch has hit the nail on the board with that cover.
@Ian - I'm a professional squee-er. I have years of experience. Do not try this at home.
I wasn't interested in the last run of this series but was intrigued about this as I enjoyed your CAPTAIN BRITAIN stuff... These news made me add ACTION to my pull list as well as checking out issue 890, so good work and kudos to you! Hope we're in for a long and fun run! :))
Other than the lives Lex Luthor has taken, I can't imagine how these two would fit together. That's why I count on Paul Cornell to shake the box of DC characters and see what sticks to what.
....patiently waiting......
Cool! Her non-Vertigo appearances in the DCU have been pretty few and far between. In fact, off the top of my head I can only think of one....
- Rob Hansen
Just got around to reading the interviews, and I have to say, I think it's strange that she's being referred to as a "villain." I mean, I know what people mean in that she's someone that Lex (and lots of people) is trying to keep far away from him. But, both in her disposition and her job, which keeps things in balance, there's nothing "villainous" about her or what she does. I'm sure you get that, Paul, especially since you so obviously love the character...it's just weird that she's being lumped in with the other DCU "villains" Lex will be coming across.
Thanks, all. I love the expression 'weaponised Lois'. No Seventh Seal nod, I think that's been done! And indeed, she's not a villain, and I haven't used that word. It's difficult when everyone else Lex will be tested by is a villain, but she's set to be an adversary to him simply in her normal role.
"only two things in life are certain, Death and Taxes. And Lex hasn't paid tax in years...."
Re: "weaponized Lois" - do they call muscular well sculpted arms "guns" in England? You might have seen the classic Will Farrell film, "Anchorman", in which he kisses his own biceps and talks about having "tickets to the gun show." :)
Well, when I saw Lois I thought - "No, REALLY! She's got GUNS. LITERALLY! She's got SEASON PASSES to the gun show! She IS the gun show!"
Aaaaand that's enough of that.
Not such a familiar expression over here. But I see what you did there.
