What's Your Comic Called Exactly?

Well, I don't like to do this, but the strictness of the rules, and last year's unfortunate happenings rather forced me into it, and a few people have asked. If you read and liked Captain Britain and MI-13 in 2009, and are in a position to nominate it for a Hugo Award (and if so, many thanks), the full and exact title of what you can nominate is:

Captain Britain and MI-13: Vampire State.

Please don't deviate from that form of words in any way.

And can someone tell me if the word is 'nominable' or 'nominatable' or if there just isn't really a word for that. I like nominable. Because then someone really should write a Hugo-worthy book called Snowman.

I feel positively dirty, having done the above. But perhaps a good sort of dirty. Cheerio!

For what it's worth, I think you're backing the right horse with nominable. While my dictionary of choice (American Heritage) doesn't take a side, Mr. Webster does list innominable as as synonym for unnameable. That's strong enough evidence for me to give nominable the ribbon!

  • Paolo Boscolo Says:

Cap Brit was one of the best comic books I've ever read.

there's nothing more to say. you and Leonard Kirk have re-created the real Excalibur team, since Claremont/Davis's run.

  • Dyl Says:

    According to this,

    http://www.wordswarm.net/dictionary/nominate.html

    ,which cites Merriam-Webster, it's nominatable....

It's on the internet so it must be true.

Good luck with the nominations - I wish I was in a position to nominate your work.

I did get the Dark Reign: Young Avengers trade recently. Brilliant as always :-)

  • Nightsky Says:

    How about "eligible"?

  • ewoklove Says:

hi paul. i like you and your blog. :) now, back to my regularly scheduled lurking. :D

  • Teresa Says:

If you can't pimp yourself on your OWN BLOG, where CAN you pimp yourself? :)

PS - I've been trying to find Captain Britain in my comic shops, but have had no luck, so I will have to resort to Amazon.com. Now THAT makes ME feel dirty...

  • Paul Cornell Says:

Paolo: thank you so much! Secret and Dyl: there's only one way to sort this out... fight! Nightsky: oh come on, who ever heard of The Eligible Snowman? Unless it's the latest Jane Austen monster novel. Ewok: me, my blog and Ewoks. At least a score draw, I think, thanks very much. Teresa: it's out in three volumes, thanks for looking.

  • Rad Says:

Good luck Paul. Loved CB and MI13 and was devastated when it got canned.

Teresa, ask one of your comic shops to order in the trades. Amazon might be cheaper now, but if we lose our independent comic shops then there will be far less opportunity to experiment with your reading.

  • Paul Cornell Says:

Thanks, and indeed, you have a point. But I always say: commerce can't be kept alive by individual charity. They have to make us *want* to buy there.

  • The Sword Is Drawn Says:

As said above, if you can't mention eligibility on your own blog, where can you? :)

All the best of luck, Paul.

  • zey Says:

Would they really ignore a nomination for "Captain Britain & MI-13 - Vampire State"? (Just curious.)

  • Paul Cornell Says:

Thanks Mr. Sword. Zey: last year they ignored nominations that stated only 'Captain Britain and MI-13' despite only one story being eligible.
