All Sorts of Stuff

I'm busy gearing up for the 12 Blogs of Christmas, which this year will begin on December 13th, but it occurs to me that there's quite a bit of stuff to get through before that, so...

First up, you can find lovely previews of the first few pages of both Black Widow: Deadly Origin #2 and Dark X-Men #2, which are out this Wednesday/Thursday, here. There is much gorgeous art on display.

Secondly, if you'd like to have a go at winning a set of Wild Cards novels, this being George R.R. Martin's shared world superhero series to which I've recently pledged my services, the place to go is here.

Thirdly, the first part of Alex Fitch's panel interview with me, Bryan Talbot, Daniel Merlin Goodbrey and Paul Duffield, done as part of the Sci-Fi London event, is now available as a podcast here.

Fourthly, a short interview I did (over months, question by question, the poor interviewer!) on the subject of how I became a writer is now online here.

And finally, I've written the foreword to a Best Of from the Doctor Who fanzine Shooty Dog Thing, which is available for a tenner or so here.

I had a lovely time last Saturday popping out to a signing in Stevenage, where the folk who hang out at and run Limited Edition Comics proved to be warm, friendly and fun: it really did seem like a place that was just as much home to a gang of friends as it was a business. That same night I headed to London, to join with many of my fellow UK comics professionals for an evening down the pub, which was as happy as we've made many a convention bar. Here, looking like they rehearsed their poses, they are:

I'm sure you can spot your favourites!

Anyhow, still room for a couple of blogs before the 12 begin, I'm sure, so until next time, Cheerio!

Glad the signing went well. I was speaking to Rich Earlier today and he said it went really well too. Though I was talking business with Rich to settle my comics tab and order my next few titles which include Black Widow:)

Will check out the podcasts and the panels and stuff you did with Bryan Talbot when I grab a minute. I'm mad busy this week.

Just listened to the panels you did and really enjoyed it.

Always a pleasure to hear what Bryan Talbot has to say.

Thought the section where you all talk about the stigma attached to illustrations in books was interesting and pretty much agreed with the panel on that one. Fact is if there'd not have been illustrations in books when I was a kid I'd have never wanted to read them. In fact I'd have struggled to read them without the illustrations.

Hearing about you seperating Doctor Who fans and Hard SciFi Fans at your party was funny. Very naughty of you.

Anyway, I better get back to work. I hate typing via the iTouch lol.

    Glad you liked it.

    Dark X-Men # 02

    Another great issue.

Omega's character really stood out more than his previous incarnations.

    Mystique looking out for herself.

    Dark Beast, enjoys some science.

The Mimic, can see some light at the end of the tunnel.

I hope the Mimic can get some more spotlight in the coming issues.

    Thanks.

  • Paul Cornell Says:

Thanks very much. That's what I'm aiming to do with that lot. Cheers.

The first two issues have been great. I did not think this would be such a great series with the cast selected, but your writing and the art has been top notched. I love how you written Nate Grey and Dark Beast. Is it possible that X-MAN will make it into the real world in his own body before the end?

  • Paul Cornell Says:

Thanks very much. You'll have to wait and see.

It's funny, i've always believed if you wanted a giant brain made of crazy people, Paul Cornell was your man.

  • Paul Cornell Says:

    It's often been said.

Bought Black Widow and I'm really enjoying it so far. Love that the guys had such a fanboy reaction to her even as she's breaking in for intel. :)

Now, I don't usually give much of a crap about the X-Men, as I find that they're much more interesting in theory than they are in practice, mostly because their mutanthood has often kept them from taking sides in anything important, and then they just sit around going "racism-metaphor-blah-blah-blah". ZZZZZZZZZ. However, I loved Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men, and I'm loving what you're doing w/Dark X-Men. You're making me care, and I thank you. :) Also, DARK BEAST IS EFFING CRAZY! That is all.

Thanks very much, I love reactions like that! And yes, he so is! Cheers.
