Let's try that again...

The poll indicates you lot think that next year's Hugo Short Form Drama nominations will be: Doctor Who; Dollhouse; Lost; True Blood and Fringe. My own bet, now it becomes clear that The Prisoner will probably be eligible for Long Form, is: Doctor Who; Dollhouse; L0st; Flash Forward and Stargate Universe. It was hard to choose between True Blood and Flash Forward. Both deserve it, but the latter has Rob Sawyer speaking for it. So let's see who's got it right when the nominations are revealed. When I won't be able to find this post. Cheerio!

I definitely think True Blood deserves something. It's just a darkly funny show that's had me hooked.

Doctor Who, sure its always deserving of some recognition. But its a little like Manchester United winning the football all the time. You kind of like to see something else win.

I'm also enjoying Flashforward. Sew the new V too. Elizabeth Mitchell just nailed it.

But if I were to pick one show for a Hugo. It would be True Blood.

    Anyway must dash now.

    Cheerio

Well, I don't want to see something else win, but then, I'm biased. But yes, True Blood is deserving.

    Paul,

Forgive me for putting this on your blog, and as a comment to post about something completely different, but I couldn't find an email address for you.

Doctor Who has just started showing in Turkey, beginning with the Chris Eccleston series, and I've been dipping into social network sites once in a while to see how the Turkish audience has been receiving it. I came across one comment which I thought you might like to see - guessing Turkish isn't your second tongue, I've translated it for you:

Should one cry when watching science fiction? I don't even like science fiction. Even if the producer is George Lucas, I have always preferred romantic comedies or drama to science fiction. This evening when I came across (Doctor Who) while channel hopping I realised how long it had been since I properly cried. Those huge birds didn't interest me much, but the story it told was just beautiful, it touched me somewhere inside. Bless the soul of whoever wrote it.

The episode was Father's Day, the writer was you. I just thought you might like to know your work touches people even in countries largely shielded from sci-fi like Turkey.

    Don't stop.

    Mike

Thanks very much. That's excellent! Especially the 'huge birds'!

Wow The Doctor has materialized in Turkey. How fantastic, brilliant and awesome is that. Sorry, I'm running out of adjectives.

Mike keep an eye out for Human Nature/Family Of Blood in the third season. Also Blink is worth a look too.

And yup Paul True Blood does deserve a win somewhere along the line.

I was thinking the other day that it would be a lot of fun to have a Doctor Who/True Blood crossover. It'd sure beat the Doctor Who/Star Trek crossover that some factions of fandom were talking about in the 80s.

    Hi Paul,

I don't know if you remember me, but we met at Chicago TARDIS convention last year. (Philadelphia Detective) Just wondering how you were and how the mystery wascoming along.
    Rosanna

  • Paul Cornell Says:

I see it as a Patrick Troughton adventure, anon. 'Oh my word!' and hello, of course I remember you, detective! I'm done, and my agent is suggesting a few last notes on Monday, so we're nearly there. I'll tell the world when there's news!

  • Rosanna Says:

    Hi Paul,

That's great! You'll have to keep all us fans informed. Look forward to reading it.

And seriously, are they just plonking every English character that needs revitalising at your feet?
PS for christmas I would like to see Nate fight the Sentry

  • Paul Cornell Says:

Of course I will, Rosanna, and Caleb, I shall add that to my Christmas list.

  • heatherfeather Says:

    Paul -

With Christmas coming around, are you going to do your 12(give or take)blogs of Christmas? Especially since this is the end of another Doctor era.

Also will there be another DW Xmas story this year..?

  • Paul Cornell Says:

There will indeed be another 12 Blogs of Christmas this year. There won't be another Who story in a newspaper, but I might include one in the 12 Blogs, if I get time. Thanks for the anticipation, it's always a hectic time for me!
