It's Black Widow Day!

The first issue of Black Widow: Deadly Origin, by me and artists Tom Raney and John Paul Leon, is in your comic shops today if you're in the US, Thursday in the UK. I did a fun phone interview about it a couple of days back, the results of which can be found here.

We've got three covers, no less, by Adi Granov, Greg Land and Tom himself. I'm very proud of the series, and I hope you enjoy it. Cheerio!

Here's a review of the first issue.
Great stuff!
Cannot wait to get my copy!
Big fan of the character and your writing; I've got high hopes for the series
Thanks, all. Hope you like it.
This book has everything for me, great story and a very distinctive artistic style.
fingers crossed to see more about the "Cold War" USSR.
Totally looking foward to read the next issue!
Congratulations Mr. Cornell.
Thanks very much.
Mostly loved the issue, Paul, and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. Why only 'mostly'? Basically, because when I read the opening scene the revelation of why the gun didn't fire had me going "Huh?" You established they were on the edge of space, had the air rushing out when the hatch blew, the gun not firing, then - alas - had the guy say "Wha..?" If there was enough air left for him to speak surely there was enough left for the gun to fire, hence my confusion at the 'reveal'. An empty word balloon - an old comics convention for when there's no sound - would've sold the scene for me.
Ah. I just went away and Googled whether or not you can fire a gun in the vacuum of space. Apparently you can since most modern cartridges have the oxygen necessary for combustion chemically locked in the propellant. I had not previously known that:

Man, I dug this -- it’s like a Merchant Ivory Anna Mercury! Elegant handling of the most logical yet surprising retcon this side of Agents of Atlas; great geopolitical-thriller grit in the callous yet tragic
personality of Natasha and brutal “protocol” of her profession. Nice textural counterpoint between the sleek modern sequences by Raney and the worn, rough-edged flashbacks by The Winter Man himself, John Paul Leon. After the inspired personalities and political drama of Captain
Britain and MI13 I figured this was one you could really sink your tradecraft teeth into, and it’s gourmet red meat; glad we didn’t have to wait ’til Iron Man 2 to enjoy it!
Ah, but Rob, it was a special sort of gun. As I'll be revealing in a one-off special sometime next decade. Thanks very much, Ish.
