Undeserved Award Nomination and Second Cap Collection
First up, I'm very proud to be included in the nominations for the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation's 20th Annual Media Awards:
Proud, but also sheepish. Young Avengers Presents, the miniseries written by several different writers, is nominated as a whole in the Outstanding Comic Book category. Unfortunately, Billy and Teddy, the Young Avengers' gay couple, didn't appear in my issue. So I'm an utter fraud on that ballot. (But I can feel a glow by association with Brian Reed and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who did script them.) We're up against Whedon and Simone, amongst others, so we're in good company. Go, Brian and Roberto!
Secondly, I'm pleased to announce that, following the sell out and reprinting of their first Captain Britain and MI-13 trade paperback, Panini will be releasing volume two, Hell Comes to Birmingham, collecting #5-9, in the UK on June 5th, for a mere £8.99. I'll once more be providing an introduction.
A friend of mine said the other day that my blog used to be 'the life and work of', but has recently become just the work. Sorry about that. It's the nature of my life at the moment. I'm aiming to publish some more fun travelogue stuff when I go on my US trip. Until next time, Cheerio.

If you feel the need to make things right with GLAAD, there's a simple solution:
"Dane, I'm really pleased you finally noticed me, you know, that way -- cos that's totally awesome and I can't even believe it, I mean, wow, this is everything I've ever dreamed of, no lie -- only I've decided I'd rather be with Jaqueline."
Or alternately:
"Jaq, sweet thing, the kiss was nice...but I'd rather be with Dane."
Work is a good thing, life is good too. Congrats on all the projects and kudos recently.
Still, as a native NYer, can't wait to read your blog on NYCC, and hope you get to tear yourself away for a little neighborhood hopping etc. Weather might be a bit crap though. Should make you appreciate LA more.
What worries me, RAB, is that you've clearly been giving those scenarios some thought! ;D
Certainly an unexpected nomination, but if you do win the category you can point out it was a group effort. This mention has just served to remind me how much I actually miss Young Avengers. I hope that Mr Heinberg finds some time to do a second series at some point.
I really liked the approach that you took with Cassie and The Vision, Paul. It would be great to see where some of the points of your story, and the others, might progress in another series.
Hey up Paul. Cracking news on the 'nomination by association' for the Young Avengers. Will we ever get to to see you take on the adult team in 'Cornell Avengers'?
Do you know if your introduction to either volumes of the Panini CB will be included in the Marvel US versions? I buy CB each month but pass it on to my Father when I'm done (which is kind of a reversal of my childhood!). However although I've kicked the comic hording habit my innate pedant is making wait for the US trades so they fit with my others (so sad I know).
Anyhoo good luck in New York from cold streets of Old York.
Darren
Thanks, all. Rab: I'm sure there's fan fiction already. There is for everyone. Baa: it's going to be cold, isn't it? Sword: I'd really enjoy that. Darren: I don't think the US versions will have the intros. But I think the first one will have some Cap nostalgia material. That's lovely about your Dad!
I picked up a copy of the first collection in Forbidden Planet London yesterday, signed by your fair hand no less.
I don't read many comics thrse days so most of the continuity went over my head, which made the opening pages a bit confusing, but it was great to see the Captain again. Would love to see Union Jack turn up later (or maybe he already has), I've not read the later comics.
Good to have you back, Niel. Yes, Joe was around in issue 5, and will shortly be back again.
Paul - ooof, yeah, looks like it is going to be in the 20s and 30s then. Wear warm socks! Are you involved in any panels or events? The NYCC website is massive and I usually can't find stuff on it that well.
I'll be at the Marvel booth signing from noon until 1pm on the Friday, and the same day, at 4.45pm, I'll be on Marvel's Dark Reign panel. I'll make sure about the socks, ta!
I've made it! Have I made it? Yes. Yes, I think I've made it. I've burrowed into the House of Awkwardness. One Gary Russell dance to go, then I'm scot free.
I'm the one who gave you the OTR CD. Hope you and Caroline enjoy it. It's taken me this long to check in because I'm not as computer literate as some and kept getting thrown out. If you don't get this message, please discount the rejoining in the first paragraph.
--Had a great time at Gally and hope to see you next year.
MK
Ah, there you are! Thank you very much, Margaret. What a lovely gesture that was. Cheers.
