Cap Twitter and Two Appearances
Well, that's made the life of Matt Smith, the editor of 2000AD, more complicated. I like the look of the young chap, myself. And if Moffat thinks he's the one, that's good enough for me. It's pleasing that a lot of the internet seems to agree. (I've had a few folk says 'what bit of the internet are you reading?' but those are the ones who live right up next to one of the small knots of loud protest, or are hearing mostly themselves: the web in general seems happy to wait and see.)
I have a couple of things to mention. I'm blogging loads lately, without really meaning to, but life seems to have sped up. Firstly, if you're on Twitter, Captain Britain himself is now posting daily, on an official basis:
Do check him out. Secondly, on the Monday night after the New York Comic Convention, that is February 9th, I'll be meeting up with the Doctor Who New York group:
At their monthly get together at the Peculier Pub (sic), which is at 145 Bleecker Street, in Greenwich Village. So do pop in if you're in town.
And finally, I'd like to remind people of the Cap signing I'm doing at London's Forbidden Planet on January 15th. I'll mention it again nearer the time. Until then, Cheerio!

I thought it was the Matt Smith who made Manic Miner and Jet Set Willy!
I'm easily confused.
As long as he's not going with that hairstyle he had on DWC, I'm interested to see what he does.
You're going to be at NYCC? Do stop by the Pocket Books booth so we can chat! I'll be there allllll weekend. :) Actually I'll try to remember to email you beforehand to remind you.

@Hughes - No, it's the one who wasn't BORN for Manic Miner & JSW!
Quite true, sometimes it's easy to forget that one's small corner of the internet is not actually the whole thing... I'm pleased the reaction was more positive than it appeared at first glance.
Personally I think there's something very appealing and Docterish about him, and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next!
See, I agree with you.
If the Moff thinks that Matt SMith will make it as Doctor Who then who are we to argue with him?
... not that I am arguing, at all, obviously!
I am sure that people thought that Tom Baker was doomed to fail after Pertwee or, more recently, I seem to recall some negativity about a certain Mr tennant replacing Eccleston too ;)
I can't wait to see what Matt Smith brings to the table.
More importantly, though, I was wondering if you would be visting Northern Ireland anytime soonish?
You see I just asked my heavily pregnant wife if she minded me flying to London on the 15th of January and, instead of an answer, I got 'the look'.
... she didn't say no, you understand, but you are married. That means that you must have experienced 'the look' once or twice.
I am not brave enough, after that, to fly over and see you at FP on the 15th ... I am sorry, of course, but would YOU defy the wife after 'the look'?
Don't answer that - your wife may be reading!!!
To what pass has this world come when, for example, I have access to a global computer network of staggering capacity yet I must learn from a writer some three thousand miles away about a group I'd like to join having their monthly meeting literally on the very same block where I live?
Thanks, all. Jen, of course I'll pop over and see you! And come out for dinner with us, won't you? Jay: me being in Dublin in March isn't much more use to you, is it? and Rab, well, that's the usefulness of the internet for you!
Ah, Mr Smith's going to be great isn't he?
It does strike me that if all the moaning minnies on internet forums who claim they'll not be watching any more actually did carry out this threat (not that they will; it'll all be a load of hot air) the effect on the viewing figures would be so negligible it wouldn't even register as the tiniest of blips...
Question is, how long will it be before we learn that The Mighty Moff has cast Hannah Murray as the companion...? : )
Dear Paul;
Congratulations for your awards and accolades. You have certainly worked hard enough to deserve all of them.
I think the idea of a comic book character having their own blog is more awesome than I can state in print. I wish more writers were creative enough to use the Internet like you do.
Wishing you the best in 2009 and beyond.
Paul - Thanks so much for the NY DW link. That's an event that might actually be doable from here near DC.
Congrats on all the great accolades in 2008 and I am sure 2009 holds even bigger things!
Yeah, the Matt Smith news is awright, not so sure about this morning's rumor de jure about Lily Allen being in the running for his Companion though.
CB's kinda dogging out his pals in a public forum, huh? I'm glad I'm not friends with him. "Rocko is a bit of a dumbass, but I think he's quite nice."
wow! i just read your post about being in the top 10, jesus christ, i never thought someone writing a captain britain comic would get noticed like that. not to say its not deserved! quick question though, your signing at the forbidden planet, what are you signing? i didnt think the first CB:I13 book was out till march-ish
Hi Paul
Neat blog you have here!
I highly anticipate the next series of Doctor Who, I love the show and I'm a fan of your writing as well as Steven Moffat's! I'm curious to see Matt Smith's acting as well!
I've just made a blog post dedicated to your episodes "Human Nature /Family of Blood" as they have really inspired me!
From the angle of a comic book writer, I would be very interested to read your comments about the illustrations I've made for the post.
I've aimed to make them more "dramatic" this time, my previous posts have cartoony caircatures of actors and writers: The Doctor and Who's WHO
Thank you!
Thanks, all. Caleb: the collection of the first four issues is out now (from Panini in the UK) and that's what I'll be signing. Amir: great caricatures, ta!
Hi Paul;
I feel silly asking this, but are you going to be at the NY Convention for the entire three days (Feb. 6-8, 2009)? When I checked their website, your name is not listed, either.
It's me, signing in anonymously, because something seems to be up with Blogger this morning...
I am indeed going to be there for all three days, and I'm told I'm going to be on some Marvel panels and signing things. I hope the website catches up!
Paul.
RE: Feb 9th pub meet...d'oh! I think you let that cat out of the bag... *heh*
