Best of the Year!

Here's one of the nice surprises I mentioned, which I can now talk about.  I've had a story, 'Catherine Drewe', from the Fast Forward 2 anthology, selected for inclusion in Science Fiction: The Best of the Year, 2009 Edition, as revealed here by editor Rich Horton:

And as you'll see from that list, I'm in great company.  I'm delighted about this, especially since I'll be angling more towards prose next year.

And you can still read said story here:

Hooray!

Congratulations Paul! I finally managed to get hold of a copy of the Wisdom trade yesterday and am really enjoying it.

  • Anonymous Says:

Paul, any chance you might be writing for DW Series 5?

  • Garpu Says:

    Wonderful news!

  • govikes Says:

    Congrats Paul.

  • Tim Says:

    Congrats!
Paul, I chanced upon you by chance actually. Being a long time DR. Who fan I was familiar with you from your New Advnetures novels (when I sold my entire Target and New Adventures collection a few years ago due to financial needs, Human Nature was one of the few books I kept back at the last minute).
I had no idea you had written stand alone novels though, until I came across a copy of "Something More" at a kind of jumble sale here in Macau (China).
Just finished it, and it's the best book I have read in ages!!
I have a few questions though, if you don't mind...

  • Lilith Says:

    Great news - and well-deserved.

Also - thank you from the lurker in the Chicago TARDIS green room (I was handling the programme books). It was so great to just hang out this year and listen to everyone. I love the actors, but it's the writers who tell the best stories!

  • Paul Cornell Says:

Thanks, all. Anon: it's far too early to say. Tim: good to see you hear, ask away! Emma: ah, but you shouldn't believe us!

  • Tim Says:

OK, thanks. Was not sure if this was the right forum to ask questions.

I loved the story of Booth's redemption, and the Rebecca/Helen twist. I was just wondering how exactly the Forgetting was created by the beam missing Booth?

  • John Picacio Says:

    Congrats, Paul! Great news!!

FAST FORWARD 2 is racking up the raves these days and I'm happy to see it. :)

  • Furious D Says:

Congratulations on the "Best of" spot.

  • Paul Cornell Says:

Tim: I only just about remember what that means! It was a long time ago. And I don't have time to look it up. Maybe someone else here can help? John: thanks, I think a lot of the attention we're getting is down to your excellent cover. And thanks, Mr. Furious.

  • Tim Says:

But, you are the same Paul Cornell that wrote the book right?yy

  • Paul Cornell Says:

I am, it was just a long time ago, and my memory's terrible.

  • Tim Says:

I know the feeling. I'm trying to find a copy of British Summertime now. Maybe I'll take the American version....

  • Paul Cornell Says:

The American version is a very nice edition, with a brilliant cover.
