Picacio Cover for Fast Forward 2

Here's a thing of beauty: the great John Picacio's cover for Fast Forward 2, the anthology I have a short story in, coming in October from Pyr Books:

John talks about the process of creating the cover on his blog:

I'm always pleased to work with such great people. Until next time, Cheerio.

Wow. That kind of looks like a futuristic rocketeer or king of the rocketmen lol.

That's something they should revive in a comic lol. I bet he could kick iron mans butt heheh.

  • Ian Cullen Says:

Forgot to add the part about it looking like Rocketeer in an ape mask.

  • Furious D Says:

Everything goes well with gorillas, guns, and God.

Which is also the state motto of Alabama.

    Cool looking cover.

  • Paul Cornell Says:

The Rocketeer is indeed part of the inspiration, as John says.

Love it. very strange, but yet oh so sci fi!

  • Ian Cullen Says:

I loved 'The Rocketeer' perhaps one of the most underated Superhero movies ever.

  • The Audio Time Team Says:

Is this the same guy that did the cover for the American release of "British Summertime"? The artwork and overall design look similar.

Completely off-topic: the effort I will go to to avoid work constantly suprises me. This afternoon, for example, I've been reading some of your old blog posts, which led to me sticking on the Confidential episodes for HN/FoB (and you so didn't look fat) and then digging all the magazine archive boxes out of the corner of the bedroom to find out how many of your SFX columns I have: turns out, six. It was worth the effort... in terms of calorie burning if nothing else. :)

Now I'm listening to the I Fanboy podcast again instead of cooking tea. Oops.

Playing catch up here. This is a quick post because I'm literally headed out the door.

Anyway issue one and two of MI13 arrived this morning - so hope to put 30 minutes aside in the next day or so to read them. Will post again with my thoughts after the fact.

Also ordered your fantastic 4 strip. I'm not actually a fan of Fantastic 4 and never have been. So hopefully this run you have wrote will not convert me as such - but kind of do something with the characters that will make me think again somewhat.

So is Pete Wisdom and Capt Brit going tu foil an assination attempt by the skrulls of all members at the G8 with a terrible bio weapon made out of our food waste:) I mean bio fuels. Why not encourage folk to recycle food lol. Then the skruls can use our rotten apples and tomatoes and make bio fuels.

    right I better scoot. Later.

    Ian

just read your PULSE interview re the FF: true story.. is beach volleyball inferno a prequel to lesbian spank inferno?

  • Paul Cornell Says:

Yes, John also did British Summertime. He's one of the leading SF cover artists, many Hugo nominations to his name. Thanks for your efforts, Adele! And yes, Gary, indeed it is!

  • Niko Says:

What a fantastic cover!! I hope I can get the book here in Germany.
