Vision Day
I’m back from
with lots of lovely Mark Brooks art pages. If you’re inclined to pop in to your local comic shop, do give it a try.
Today I did an interview for BBC Radio Wales’ All Things Considered, which I gather will be going out soon. I shall of course let you know when.
Here’s the Amazon page for Fast Forward 2, the upcoming SF anthology from Pyr Books that I’m proud to have a short story in. I’m told to emphasise that this isn’t the final cover by John Picacio, but a work in progress. However, I feel bound to say that I think it’s lovely as it is.
And here’s a variant cover of the first issue of Captain
My travels aren’t over yet, I’m off to record some Doctor Who DVD extras tomorrow. I hope that at some point I’ll get to lie on a sofa somewhere. Or possibly type at my desk rather than on a train, because the novel is getting along, and I’d like to know how it looks when it’s keeping still. Until I see you next, hopefully with a large chunk of travel writing, Cheerio!

Thanks Paul!

I'm a huge Black Knight fan so I can't wait for this!
Captain Britian is just so cool. Those are gorgeous.
DW DVD Extras?? *bounces*
ALL VERY EXITING NEWS.
oh is there any news on Chalk. I am very interested in reading it after your interview on the Whocast.
regards
Michael (host of the Tin Dog Podcast and Clay Zygon provider from years ago!)
Nice review on IGN, 8.8 and props to Paul...
Glad you got back safe and sound from NYC and hope to read your tales of the City here soon!
Looking forward to your DW DVD extras as I really enjoyed your bits on DWC!
The Warskrull (I'm assuming it is one) on the alternate Captain Britain and MI:13 cover appears to be the same one we've seen in the Leonard Kirk panels that have been doing the rounds. As far as I can see from that it appears to have the powers of the original Champions team: Ghost Rider's head, The Angel's wings, Iceman's ice blasts and Hercules' mace.
And I really am that sad to have been trying to work it all out... ;)
Looks good, Paul. Who's doing the colours for the book?
So, want a comment on Vision?
What a spiffing comic - Paul's script was terrific here, showing us the possibility of a romance between Cassie and the newly named Jonas (which Vizh thinks is a cool name, but I reckon is unpleasant), Cassie's perspective on being pro-registration, a sticky situation for awkward teens, a sensible use of AIM agents and a look at where the Vision's been for the past few months.
Plus, there was some nice artwork by Mark Brooks and Jaime Mendoza. The characters were attractive - Jonas/teen Tony Stark looks great, and matches the charming personality Paul gives him - and the action moved along nicely. The only bit that didn't quite come off was a talking heads spread, in which clever things were being done in the background, but all the dialogue made this missable.
I cannot wait for Captain Britain and his Amazing Friends!
Thank you very much, all. I've put Chalk aside for now, and am working on a different novel. I've now become a bit of a talking head on Who DVDS, commenting on the old stuff, until people get bored of me. Thanks very much for that review, Mart, much appreciated. And do you know, Sword, I don't know the name of our colourist yet! I've just asked. I've seen the whole issue with colours and everyone's done a terrific job.
Mr. Cornell, I thought your issue was the best of the series yet; I really liked how you wrote both characters (although I'm interested in to what extent you think Cassie is actually pro-Reg; she only joined them because she didn't want to die like Bill Foster, at least that's how Civil War #4 made it seem). Wonderful stuff (I can't wait for MI:13).
Just did a review on Young Avengers Presents #4 for Brokenfrontier.com! I really liked it! I'm trying to get into the comics biz myself, so if you have a few pointers for me, I'd be glad to hear them.
Our colourist, Sword, is the wonderful Brian Rebur, who's doing a terrific job. And thanks very much, you two, a very kind review. I think Cassie's entirely pro-Reg, you don't do that sort of thing on a whim. These days, Dan, it's really easier to break into comics if you succeed in another medium first. So it's a two stage process. With which I wish you luck.
I didn't get to make it to con but I'm glad to hear you had a wonderful time. What sort of novel are you working on or is it a secret?
Thanks. I don't want to talk about it yet. Firmly plotted, I know where I'm going, but if one talks one often doesn't write.
Though these days it's easier to break into any medium if you succeed in another one first, so either you end up caught in infinite regression or you pick somewhere to start...
That's one of quite a few vicious circles that make people think the trade isn't worth following. That's good, because it takes someone who'll ignore that to get anywhere.
Wow!! This CB preview looks ****ing amazing!!!

Incidentally, the colourist's name is Brian Reber (two Es :)) and his Deviantart page is HERE:

Thanks Tom, I'll plonk that into the next blog.
DVD extras? New Series or Old?

Hi Paul.
I'm professionally engaged by the BBC to tell people this, so I'm not sure if this constitutes spam, but your appearance on "All Things Considered" goes out this Sunday at 8.30 AM on BBC Radio Wales. People can listen live online to the show if they're not in Wales on the All Things Considered website, from where you'll also be able to download it afterwards in their podcast.
I was the producer of the My Science Fiction Life site eons ago, hence why I was skulking here... a (very) belated thanks for sharing your tales on that site with us :)
Old series, Erik. And thanks, Dylan, as you'll see, I've blogged about it. Ta!
