Next Year in Dublin
I'm honoured to announce that I'm going to the Guest of Honour at one of my favourite conventions, the Phoenix Convention in Dublin, in 2009:

It's the first time I've been GoH anywhere, and it's doubly splendid that it's this lot, even if it does mean that I'll have the mickey taken out of me the whole weekend. They tell me that the GoH buys the drinks. At any rate, it's lovely news, and thanks, chaps.

You would have been GoH at SwanCon this year if hadn't seen Rob Shearman in your place ;)
Hi Paul,
I saw that your going to be at the Bristol Comic Con this year.
Woo-hoo! I'll finally be able to meet you. Got time for the odd beer or two in the bar after all the goings on during the day?
Thanks, Martin :O)
I seem to recall you were GoH (sahring the billing with Janet Fielding), in New Zealand, Paul! :)
If anyone takes out a paddle with the words "GUEST OF HONOUR" embossed on it, then the hazing has just begun.
Martin
If you want to meet Paul at Bristol, just wait for the awards ceremony and look for the ranting man :)
Paul -
Well, congrats! Your dance card is filling up very rapidly. Bet it gets even more hectic after Aug. :).
I read your interview at BBC Writersroom website and found it very helpful. That's a great site.
I am getting very discouraged because every publisher or media outlet related to DW that I look into is proclaiming they are not accepting unsolicited submissions "at this time". I've had bad experiences with agents in the past, so I am not sure where to turn next. Your interview talks a lot about the writing process itself, but not about how you got your work accepted. Any chance you will have some time to touch on that?
James Moran has started an intriguing series on his blog about getting a script accepted and produced for Torchwood. But he was already famous :).
I did manage to find a Northern Virginia Doctor Who Viewing Society here in Virginia. I am in contact with them but I don't think they hold conventions. I get the feeling they meet in a secret basement of the Pentagon and take copious notes during the episodes :).
I'm still getting so guilted about SwanCon. And indeed, Martin, Bristol for me is one panel and loads of bar. Paul: this is a matter of pride for those down under, isn't it? Mark: I'm just going to pop my head into the Eagle Awards this year, and at the first sign of an absent acceptor, a non-working video clip or a Bart Simpson shampoo bottle, I shall just quietly depart. Don't get me started. Doodle: well, you do need an agent. If by 'bad experiences' you mean an agent asked you for money, that wasn't a proper agent. We all have a different story of how we broke in to the business, because it's incredibly hard. You just have to keep trying, and take every possible opportunity.
Thanks for the kind encouragement, Paul. Wasn't money up front, but some shady stuff after the fact, so a matter of integrity.
We are finally getting to see Primeval here in the States. I think it will be replacing Torchwood on BBCA. Can't wait to see your episode, though not sure we will get both series in one run. Fingers crossed.
What shady stuff? Don't name names, but I'm interested in what went on.
Thanks for your interest, Paul. I've recommended your blog to a lot of people, so I'm hesitant to say much more in public :).
On a completely different topic, I am bummed BBCA isn't showing the entire first season of Robin Hood again before they start season two here :(. Just the last three episodes. Are there any new projects of yours we can look forward to over here?
I really shouldn't have asked for more details, so I shall leave it there. If you've seen Primeval, then that's all my stuff up to date, for the moment. I shall of course yell loudly on here when there's more! Thanks for asking.
Huzzah! You were a lovely panelist at WFC last year, so I'm sure you'll do a stonking good job as GOH.
Why thank you!

Fantastic Four: True Story! Looks like a lot of fun (although apparently within the Doctor Who universe you're only a novelist again!). And would you believe it, there's at least one Marvel writer on a high-profile book who, as I understand it, hates Kirby (he must be mad! Pity because he's a great writer).
Tom Brevoort published an additional art sample here (the cover in the CBR article is one of Niko Henrichon's, he of Pride of Baghdad; these interiors are by Horacio Dominguez):

Thanks for that, Tom. You caught me on the hop there, so I blogged about it before approving your post! I knew it was going to be announced soon, but not exactly when.
