Black Knight Profile
And here's a bit about the last member of our Captain Britain and MI-13 team, for now, the Black Knight:
The Black Knight
He's been a favourite of mine since I first glimpsed him during the Avengers/Defenders war. And then he was just a statue. Cheerio!

He's Captain Britain's oldest friend, former sparring partner and his whole ancestry and mythos is tied to the UK. The perfect choice.
It might even nudge Marvel into finally reprinting those Steve Parkhouse/Steve Dillon Black Knight & Captain Britain stories, from Hulk Comic.
I like Dane. If anybody can stabilize Cap he's the guy.
I'll be very interested to see the redesign. Will he be keeping the recogniseable helmet?
Did you read the Black Knight strips in Dez Skinn's HULK WEEKLY as a young 'un, Paul?
Hi Paul,
Just a quick note from a long time Black Knight fan. I felt great when you stated that you "always loved the Black Knight" because now I know the character is in good hands.
I was surprised about you not using the armor since you kind of melded the energy sword BK (Avenger jacket) with the ebony blade one. I always thought Marko drew the best Black Knight on the cover of Mystic Arcana Black Knight and was kinda hoping that's how he would be drawn in this book.
I hope Dane is part of the team for the long haul.
Thanks and good luck!
Govikes.
Hi Paul just wanted to pop by and say thanks again for the interview it was loads of fun!
Hopefully should be available sometime tomorrow.
Barry
I'd love to see a volume of the Hulk Comic Cap/Black Knight stories. They were my absolute favourite as a kid. And yes, we're keeping the helmet. Well, that's the direction we're going in, Gov. And yes, he's in for the long run. I shall blog when it is, Barry, thanks for being so welcoming.
I read 'Black Knight' and I instantly think Monty Python... maybe it's just me...
This looks really exciting! I re-read bits of the Rudiments of Wisdom tpb last night and I am looking forward to an authentically British voice doing British stuff in the Marvel universe once more.
(Is that a Mercian wyrm on Captain Midlands's shield, by the way?)
I read 'Black Knight' and I instantly think Monty Python... maybe it's just me...
Definitely not just you. ;)
I am SO happy that Dane's back in action. He was the character that got me into buying comics regularly back in his Harras/Epting Avengers stint...(anyone else a fan of this era? Mr Cornell?)
from what I read in the profile, it sounds like it's gonna be 'my' Dane, which I'm looking forward to.
Hasn't it been about ten years since he was a regular in anything?
Thanks very much, Abigail. You'll have to ask Trev Hairsine about the wyrm, but knowing him it's entirely possible. I'm hoping to cater for everyone's Dane, Alex, while taking the character forward: you know, that lovely comic reading feeling when you go 'that's him'?
Hey Paul, in typical fashion dave has run off on our for his play, for a week, without giving me your email address. If you can drop me an email to geeksyndicate@hotmail.co.uk I can send you an email/link when I've uploaded the interview we did.
Cheers
Barry
I've been a huge fan of Black Knight since... well... ever.
Yes, I have those HULK COMIC weeklies, so I love the fact that he'll be back in action with Captain Britain (the two also teamed up in the EXCALIBUR: Sword of Power 4-issue miniseries in 2000).
However, that said... I must comment on two things that struck me as "off" from the article:
1) While I know that there's a whole mystery concerning WHO has the true Ebony Blade (Dane or TChalla), the last time it was seen was in the possession of Dane's former squire; BLOODWRAITH.
Dane has been using the Sword of Light / Shield of Night & mystical armour granted to him by the Lady of the Lake (in the 2nd series of HEROES FOR HIRE) along with a new winged steed; STRIDER.
I don't mind if he loses all that swag, but perhaps that can be addressed?
ALSO, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE release the spirit of VICTORIA BENTLEY from the Ebony Blade.
She's a Steve Ditko created character from Strange Tales # 114 (almost as old as Doctor Strange himself).
She was absorbed into the sword back in an issue of "Avengers Unplugged".
A great character that was tossed away without ever fulfilling her potential.
and...
2) Dane is not (and hasn't ever been - as far as I can recall) a "funny" /witty character.
He's always been very old-fashioned and fairly stoic.
I don't mind characters changing.
They're not real, and heck, people do change, but I've never known low-key people to ever become witty jokesters.
They tried this with Doctor Strange in his book and it failed miserably (trying to copy the success of the then humorous & successful DR FATE series).
My apologies for the length of the post, and by all means I'm not claiming any kind of fan "entitlement". I'm just offering info of which the new editors might not remember or be aware.
I'll be buying and reading this series.
Best of luck.

P-TOR
Oh!
And... any possibility of bringing the MARVEL UK character
MORTIGAN GOTH ; IMMORTALIS
out of comic limbo?
He's a British character, lived in Spitfire's home for many years, and would bring cool stuff to the table.
Also, he's friends with Doctor Strange (which would help bring Doc in for a guest spot) and is an immortal for of Mephisto (who's all the rage now).
Just suggestions.

P-TOR
Mortigan gets my vote!
I don't know about outwardly witty, but I would expect a certain amount of banter to be expected between him and Brian, even if it was more of an acknowledging the 'last time we did something like this...' kind of thing?
Nice pic in the Abingdon Herald today Paul!
it appears that Pete Wisdom has followed cap's example and been added the Earth's Most Wanted poker deck, as the 5 of sapdes.
http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=13323
"Combating an alien invasion requires both a capable defense as well as a fearless offensive; people willing to do potentially morally uncertain things for the greater good. Pete Wisdom is such an individual. As a mutant agent of British Intelligence’s MI:13 division – charged with managing supernatural and superhuman threats to the United Kingdom – Wisdom has often had to make difficult decisions in order to defeat the “weird threats” menacing the Britain. Most recently, in the pages of the “Wisdom: Rudiments of Wisdom,” the agent was instrumental in repelling an attack on the UK by Martian invaders.
Replacing Wisdom with a Skrull impostor could ease some of the conspirators’ worries. “They'd gain access to MI:13 and potentially the ability to misdirect any resistance efforts within the UK and possibly Europe as a whole,” Tom Brevoort told CBR News. “Plus, it would give them a clear shot at John the Skrull, who's not their favorite person.” MI: 13 operative John the Skrull came to Earth as part of a previous invasion force before deciding to work with British Intelligence. The idea that John could have armed Wisdom with damaging secrets about Skrull culture makes the conspirators targeting Earth very nervous.
The Skrulls could also neutralize Wisdom using a variety of psychological attacks. The mutant spy’s penchant for morally murky decision making has taken its toll in the form of a number of psychological scars. “He's not the most stable individual, and he's prone to bouts of excess with cigarettes, alcohol and possibly strong pharmaceuticals,” Brevoort said."
Thanks, Barry, I've now been in touch. Sanc: you'll just have to wait and see, but it's good to hear from such a Dane fan. Sword: I'll link to that in the main blog, ta.
The Black Knight strip is currently being collected by Panini for release sometime later in the year/early next.
I've been told....shhhhh
Is this the character you were referring to on Barry's Geek Syndicate? Or is there another closet Brit in the Marvel Universe? :-D
Ooh! And no, Dane's in the starting line-up, and isn't the character I mentioned. And actually, he's not British, he just lives here. There is indeed another closet Brit.
Hi Paul,
Will there be any preview art of CB and MI:13 issue #1 up soon?
Thanks!
I don't know, as yet. When I hear, I shall be sure to blog about it.

I miss the Eagle Crest on the Black Knight, otherwise great. Looks like Skrull blood does not count towards the Ebony Blade curse.
Great Job!
Sorry..proper link:

Thanks for those.
I have to say I'm a bit miffed at your opportunity to finally write Dane Whitman well by harnessing all the potential of every loose end he's left over the years combined with internal conflicts that could develop into a great story considering how underused he is. What if he could hold a book of his own? I've made a bible of notes for potential plots, but it looks like what you have planned for the series includes what I was hoping would be addressed, including adding some personality. My only concern is that with Pete Wisdom and Captain Britain in the same book I'm afraid the whole thing will be too damn good.
Ah. Sorry! I know that feeling myself. I hope we provide what you seek: it is what I'm trying to do. Cheers.
