New Podcast Interview

It's been a while since I recorded it, but I think possibly the best interview I've ever done (and it's huge!) features in the new DWO Whocast:

http://www.thewhocast.com/DWOWhocast/default.asp

We mainly talk about Doctor Who, mostly 'Human Nature', but we end up covering everything under the sun. Do check out the bit right after the end titles.

Also, I'm pleased to say that I'm going to be popping along to the World Fantasy Convention in Saratoga in November (where I'll find out if Deanna Hoak wins her much deserved World Fantasy Award for copyediting). But unfortunately not to Fantasycon in Nottingham, owing to work commitments. Until I see you across the pond, or here next time, Cheerio!

Awesome interview with the Whocast guys.

  • Paul Cornell Says:

It'll be good to see you, also. I shall let the world know which panel(s) I'm on. And thank you, Audio Time Team! I imagine that's you all speaking in unison. Cheers.

I really enjoyed that interview. I'm fairly new to Doctor Who & you made me so happy to be a fan! And I really love David Tennant as the Doctor, too. He's the one who made me a DW fan.

Also, it's nice to know that there are religious people who are more liberal in their attitudes about things. Here in the US most religious people seem to be conservative, which is why I am no longer religious. If you are liberal, you just don't fit in. Wow, I want to move to the UK!

    Again, great interview!

  • Paul Cornell Says:

Thank you! You'll find some liberal religious folk out there too, I'm sure. We really should stand up and be counted a bit more.

I must also agree that I enjoyed your interview very much. You definitely seem to be one of the more "accessible" Who-related authors currently around. I'm not sure if that is because you do make yourself more available, or if it is because you are such a darn nice guy to talk to. Nothing against any others, because I enjoy their contributions as well, but I do seem to hear your voice more than anybody else's. Thanks for that.
It is also good to be able to hear positive discussions of Christian faith and spirituality within fandom as well (I hesitate to say 'religion' because that tends to deemphasize the relational aspect which is vital). Realizing that it is not our primary focus, it is encouraging to know that it is not a "downed" aspect of our lives.
All the best and I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing more from you.

The host was a traditionalist in liturgy with liberal outlooks on social issues *and* a Doctor Who fan? I may have to rethink my ideas about polyandry.

  • Brian Says:

Paul - that was a very enjoyable interview. I especially appreciated your comments re: "Heroes" and the host admitting to have to have seen the entire season before it had aired. Thanks for that :)

  • Brian Says:

Oh, and the description of DW fandom as "the island of bullied children" (the first time I'd heard that) was sadly beautiful.

  • Paul Cornell Says:

Thanks very much, all. I do try to put myself about. I must tell Paul that he's in there. I've nearly finished writing a novel with much reference to a fan childhood, so it's very much in my head at the moment.
