Deadlines

Arrgh! I now have too much work. Or maybe just exactly the right amount of work. We're on the work meniscus. None of it can I talk about yet. And it's all lovely. And I wouldn't have it any other way. But all of it is to deadline. And so I can't sit around chatting, I have to get back to it. But I just felt self-defeatingly motivated to come here to tell you about it. Arrgh!

Work is good. Sitting around waiting for work to come in drives you crazy!

Have fun! Don't work too hard!

  • LJC Says:

Yay work yay! Now get back to it, and stop faffing about on the internets.

Deadlines are good, too. The reason why I'm such a non-prolific writer is that I don't have any deadlines. Because... I don't have any work! From the ladder's bottom rung, mountains of work and looming deadlines seem like a very attractive place to be - rejoice, I say!
Procrastination isn't so bad either, mind you... Douglas Adams never finished anything remotely prior to deadline - right?

  • Fiona C Says:

I heard an interesting saying from a friend this morning about deadlines: "it's like everything else in the world becomes more interesting [than whatever it is you're working on]".

I know the pain of deadlines, being a student and hencely held to deadlines when it comes to essays.

All the same: stick in there. =) Put on some music or something and let that inspire you.

... And remember not to overdo it. Take a break when you need to. Thing's will be so much clearer when you get back to your writing.

    Best of luck, Paul. =)

So, can we assume, that one of these peices of work is a Series Four (30) Doctor Who script, that you cannot talk about because the series is yet to be officially commisione yet.

It is a bit much, really, isn't it? My, the grass over this side of the fence is just way too green! I do think, actually, that Douglas Adams doesn't serve as a good example about this. No, John, we can't assume that at all. And Tara... !

  • LJC Says:

    Paul...!!

(hey, just because I am complete and utter crap at writing to deadlines doesn't mean I don't own a whip to crack... I was an editor for a while, after all.)

Also, you'll see that I added a see me icon to my blogegr account, just for you (after the blogging panel).

Fear my laser stare. FEAR ME.

  • Tammy Says:

and dont you feel better now, for telling us about it? Or at least ya blew a few more minutes blogging. Seriously--I'd accomplish nothing in life without deadlines and the worst thing in the world is knowing that a deadline's just a suggestion to some people and I really don't *have* to turn it in on time.

  • Paul Cornell Says:

I was already there with the fear, Tara. Do you know, I've never missed a deadline. Asked for an extension once, mind.

  • Matthew Says:

I'm still attempting to write at least one story. All I seem to do now is blog on unimportant balooney.

Well, I know just how you feel.
